Meet the Artist: Lorraine Cooley

Lorraine Cooley with Winslow Homer

Title: Tribute (left)
Medium: Sterling silver, bronze, and rainbow moonstone
Inspired by Winslow Homer, The Artist’s Studio in the Afternoon Fog (right)

Loraine Cooley is an artist, craftsperson and teacher. Through a BFA in metals from R.I.T., study in Art Education at Nazareth College and extensive travel around the globe, she has gained aesthetic and technical expertise in her field. Her jewelry, sculpture, paintings and collages have been exhibited nationally. Since 1987, Ms. Cooley has enjoyed her roll as Jewelry Instructor at the Memorial Art Gallery ‘s Creative Workshop. She maintains an art studio where she teaches and creates one of a kind, custom and limited edition jewelry and sculpture.

The Artist’s Studio in an Afternoon Fog” speaks to me with its strong horizontal shapes, limited palette and subtle textures. My homage to Homer clearly reflects his view yet stands alone as an abstract work comprised of the same elements of art.

I’m in love with the sterling silver jewelry piece, I’d love to see her work in exhibit. Reminds me of medieval times. Even the photography was done to perfection, inspiring.
