Unbelievable! Hand crafted Sticks Furniture at Art & Treasures 2012

By Lois Sumberg, Gallery Council Member

I had to pinch myself to make sure what I saw was real. But it’s true, there in front of me were three wonderfully whimsical pieces, a  half round accent table, a tall narrow bookcase and a mirror, all in pristine condition and featuring the hand drawn imagery, etched contouring and vibrantly blended paint unique to the furniture company, Sticks, Inc. Two of the pieces even have a favorite Sticks’ sayings on them, “the secret to life is enjoying the passage of time.” I can’t imagine anyone giving these away. But there they sat, waiting to be put on sale at the 2012 Art & Treasures Sale.

The front of the shelves are inscribed: Know love . Dream . Eat good food

If you’re unfamiliar with Sticks, here is a very short history lesson. Sarah Grant started the company in 1992 in Des Moines, Iowa. Since then Sticks has received national acclaim for its distinctive furniture, accessories and object art. Each piece is hand crafted from birch, poplar and driftwood.

Please come see these distinctive wood furniture pieces and all of our donated treasures at the 2012 Art and Treasures Sale. Relax, enjoy a cold drink and shop ahead of the crowd at our early bird sale on Thursday, June 28, 2010 from 6-8 pm. Admission is $15 with advance reservations through June 27 (call the Gallery Council office 276.8910 to reserve); $18 at the door. The sale is open to the public on Friday, June 29 10 am-6 pm and Saturday, June 30 9 am-2 pm, Cutler Union. No admission charge! Sponsored by the Gallery Council of the Memorial Art Gallery, all sales benefit the Memorial Art Gallery.
