The Gallery Store: Always an Artful Experience
By Judy Scott, Advancement Department Intern
Come see what’s new at the Gallery Store—regularly transformed to artfully represent the permanent and recent, present and future MAG exhibitions. Available now are new spring findings, creative must-haves for babies and children, pottery, art for the home, and jewelry galore for every budget and taste. Located just outside the museum entrance, a peek in the windows invites you to preview offerings for the Fiberart International opening April 30, but these colorful, lovely, variously-textured pieces, unlike those of the upcoming exhibition, are for touching and wearing.
Related to the permanent collection are Egyptian samplings that will help the curious school-age student, like small figures, games, and hieroglyphic magnets, with art books on many topics available for the aficionado. Scrumptious jewelry of glass, fiber, precious and semi-precious metals and gems by various artists is always enticing. One fun treat is a rubbery, round, multi-colored light-up ring with what looks like a grapes on top—perfect for anyone’s daughter. (Yes, I bought one for mine). More traditional fare available in conjunction with the current show, Wine and Spirit: Rituals, Remedies and Revelry, are glittering stoppers, unique wine glass charms, openers, books, and wine-inspired hanging metal art. Wine goblets of green and yellow blown glass, pottery, and glass in styles reminiscent of the show are presented with flair, but my personal favorite is Kala Stein’s white Wedding Wine Goblet Vase, celebrating two halves that make the whole. These items beckon to be taken home or given as gifts, all to be enjoyed.
