Conservation of Artwork in Progress

By Jessica Marten, Assistant Curator

Just like people, works of art age. The Memorial Art Gallery’s Roman sculpture, Togatus, is almost 2,000 years old! Time and environmental conditions have resulted in an accumulation of surface grime. To help the sculpture look its best, conservator Barbara Moore will be cleaning the marble using minimally-invasive and scientifically-tested materials and techniques.

The Memorial Art Gallery is committed to providing the best possible care and conservation for the collection; preservation is fundamental to the Gallery’s mission. Thank you to Helen H. Berkeley for the funding to make this possible.
