MAG Glass Gala and Ben Franklin

By Laura Swett, Memorial Art Gallery Board of Managers

What do the Memorial Art Gallery‘s upcoming fundraising Glass Gala and a famous inventor have in common?? Music of course! And not just any type of music – think “wet-finger-around-the-wineglass” music but played in ‘a more convenient’ arrangement on the glass armonica, an instrument invented by Ben Franklin in 1762. You won’t want to miss musician, William Zeitler’s performance on the glass armonica at the MAG Glass Gala on May 1st. Zeitler will be playing in the Grand Gallery surrounded by the exquisite exhibition, GlassWear. vigna2

Champagne in the Fountain Court, elegant seated dinner, dancing in the Pavilion, silent and live auctions and the not-to-be-missed glass armonica concert will make this a most memorable evening. Tickets to The Glass Gala are limited so make your reservations now (last year’s gala was sold out).

Pictured is a piece from GlassWear: Giorgio Vigna, Gorgoglio (necklace) (2002). Hand-blown Murano glass, copper, and silver. Collection of the artist.
