We’re excited to give you a sneak preview of MAG’s 2010-11 exhibition season, which truly has something for everyone!

The year kicks off with the 4th Rochester Biennial, an invitational spotlighting the work of six outstanding mid-career artists from upstate New York. The show runs from July 25-September 26 and the invitees are:

AubTed Aub of Geneva, who will be showing his special brand of surreal sculptures in both bronze and hydrocal;

HavensAnne Havens of Rochester, with prints, drawings, video and sculpture that deal with the creative process itself;

HockRick Hock, also of Rochester, who uses digital media and appropriated images to envision the end of the world as we know it;

reyAlberto Rey of Fredonia, a painter and environmental activist who has created new work about Rochester’s marine eco-system especially for this exhibition;

williamsLawrence M. “Judd” Williams of Spencerport, who contributes a series of deceptively elegant found-wood constructions;

and Julianna Furlong Williams, also of Spencerport, with mixed media drawings that forcefully depict the terrors of the 1918 flu epidemic.Julianna

In the fall, we’re offering you a groovy experience with Psychedelic: Optical and Visionary Art Since the 1960s, which will be in Rochester from October 17, 2010-January 2, 2011. It features original virtuosos of the genre such as Frank Stella and Victor Vasarely, second generation greats including filmmaker George Cisneros:cisneros

and contemporary masters of the mind-melting image like Alex Rubio.rubio

With luck, you’ll have recovered from any holiday overindulgence by January 29, when Wine and Spirits: Rituals, Remedies and Revelry opens (it closes on April 10). The role of the grape in religion, medicine, and celebration will be explored through objects as diverse as an ancient Greek drinking vesselvessel

and a Roger Fenton photograph of a wounded Zouave soldier from 1856.fenton

We close the season with the winners of the 2010 Fiberart International competition, on view from May 1-July 3. Including both traditional and innovative uses of the fiber medium, it showcases the best new work by artists from around the world, such as Hong Kong’s Ray Hau,hau

Pam Rubert of St. Louis, MO,rubert

and Rochester’s own Jeanne Raffer Beck!beck

We look forward to seeing you at all of these exceptional new exhibitions!
