New on view
The Forman Gallery at the Memorial art Gallery has a new work on view. This painting of the original entrance to the MAG’s 1913 building was painted in 2013 in honor of the Gallery’s centennial year. Painted in gouache in the time-honored style of travel posters from 1913, this art pulls together many local connections.

Gift of Donna and Jerry Spexarth, 2014.3
This original was created and sold at the WXXI auction, from which Gallery member Jerry Spexarth purchased it as a birthday gift for his wife, Donna. Once Donna heard MAG was interested in adding the painting to the permanent collection, she decided to give it to the Gallery. The Spexarth’s act of generosity represents the unique character of Rochester: warm, engaged, and philanthropic. It is through the commitment of our supporters and our community that the Memorial Art Gallery will continue to thrive for the next 100 years.
The image has been reproduced as prints and posters that are available for sale in the Gallery Store.

Cool. I need to go see it; I love her work. And, grrrr, I can’t get gouache to look that opaque when I use it. I love the style but the technique is eluding me. Anyone have any pointers?
